[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”PORN AND SEX ADDICTION” font_container=”tag:h1|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Porn and sex addiction are two different terms and are two different disorders. However, addiction to porn could be a type of sex addiction. Sex addicts are also referred to as Khame (Wilson, 2000) based people. Addiction to porn may lead to serious complications and distress in many aspects of life.
Different types of sex addiction include the following:
- pornography
- masturbation
- exhibition/voyeurism
- prostitution
- sadistic or masochistic behavior
Sex addiction can be due to genetic predisposition or due to hormonal imbalance. High levels of testosterone or estrogen can affect sexual desire or can cause increased libido, which is an increase sexual desire.
Sex addiction can have emotional symptoms as well as physical symptoms. According to the USDA, about 45% of men and about 38% of women with sex addiction have a venereal disease as a result of their behavior. Nearly 70% of females with sex addiction have reported an unwanted pregnancy and abortion as a result of their sex addiction.
This type of addiction can affect a person’s social and personal life, including a decrease in personal relationships, attendance at family and friends’ celebrations, work, decreased concentration and sexually transmitted diseases or sexual dysfunction.
Psychological effects like emotional issues, feeling ashamed, anxiety, depression, drug abuse and obsessive compulsive disorder like symptoms, etc. can also be a result of sex addiction.
TREATMENT
However, sex addiction can be treated. You have to consult your psychiatrist, or any mental health care professional, to come up with treatment options for sex addiction. This will heal the ongoing mental and social issues in your life. Professionals can help and guide you to address the underlying factors of your abusive addiction. They will teach you to cope with your uncontrolled feelings, thoughts, and your behavior (Carnes & Adams, 2013) .
Internet sex addiction typically involves googling porn websites and downloading porn videos and images (Young, 2008). It can be treated with a drug named naltrexone which augments neurotransmitter dopamine release (Bostwick & Bucci, 2008).
Some therapies like individual therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, group therapy, and counseling will help you a lot.
If someone close to you is addicted to sex or pornography, he will need family affection and support to quit his addiction. Never leave him alone. Try to counsel him and discuss the cons of sex addiction and pros of a healthy life (Carnes & Adams, 2013).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
