Chapter 3 : Birth

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”CHAPTER 3 : BIRTH” font_container=”tag:h1|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The bright lights, beautiful women, and high roller lifestyle were attractive to me, and it didn’t take long for the addiction to set in. Soon all I could think about was gambling, it didn’t matter where I was, whether I was at work, at home with my beautiful wife or shopping for groceries, all I could think about was getting that next thrill of excitement that I got when I gambled. Of course, nobody knew my dirty little secret, not my parents, my friends and definitely not my wife.

In order to give you an idea of exactly how deep in the gambling pool that I was in, there was this one incident and probably one of the worst ones that I can remember, or at least, I’m sure that’s what Annie would tell you now that she knows the truth about me. About a year into my addiction, Annie was nine months pregnant with our only child, Andrew and we couldn’t wait for arrival. One day, I was at the casino playing at the blackjack table and I got a text message from Annie’s sister Beverly, saying: Annie’s in labor, we’re on our way to the hospital.” I looked at it, thought for a moment and decided to ignore it so I could finish the round at the table. “How terrible is that?” It gets worse, I ended up staying for three more hours, playing blackjack until I lost all of the money in my pocket.

I went to the hospital, and made up some lie to Annie and just told her I was at the courthouse for trial and I couldn’t get out before now. She was very understanding, too understanding if you ask me. I don’t know what I ever did to deserve a woman like her, she was beautiful, intelligent and everything you would want in a spouse and I was disappointing her every day with my addiction, even though she had no idea what I was doing behind her back. After all, how could she have? I was very careful at hiding my addiction from her, or at least I thought at the time. Luckily for me; I made it to the hospital in time to see Andrew being born.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
